The Campaign Trail

Due to good advertising, as shown in this commercial, and a relatable point of view, Barack Obama was elected as America’s first ever African American president on November 4th, 2008. His plan to ‘change’ America won over the majority of the country, and will now allow him to take action towards bettering the issues depicted in this ad.

Bringing up the issues of poverty, war, health care, unemployment, plummeting stock markets and natural disasters hit home for many Americans. Obama was successful in gaining support from all ages, all races, and all ways of life by stating that he could make their country a better place to live. His whole message revolves around one word- Change. The American people liked this, because they did not like what their former president, George Bush had made their nation, and they wanted someone to fix it. They wanted a leader who would be a positive influence and do whatever he could to improve their lives.

Making the commercial identical to the very popular commercial from 2000 was a very clever move. For people who have seen the previous commercial, they will feel a connection, and inadvertently, feel a connection with Obama. For people who have never seen the commercial before the Obama version, they will still find the commercial finny, yet addressing important topics.

So, I enjoyed this commercial and the message behind it. I think it had a large impact on Obama’s success, and sums up everything he believes in for America
